THE RED ROOM
The Red Room is a cosy first-floor bedroom, perfect for one guest, with a beautiful bronze single bed. During artist residencies, however, it reflects the inventive spirit of the late artist Yony Waite, the former owner of the house. Yony built bunks and sleeping ledges that allow the room to comfortably accommodate up to three artists during larger residencies, preserving the collaborative spirit that shaped Jua Paa House.
The room includes a small sitting area overlooking the street, a fridge, and easy access to a bathroom with a shower on the first floor.

THE ESCHER ROOM
The Escher Room occupies the second floor and is the largest room in the house. It features a queen-size bed and can accommodate up to two traditional Lamu cots, making it ideal for couples, families or up to three artists in residence. The lockable room includes its own kitchenette with a stove and fridge, a dining area, a generous sitting space, and a bathroom immediately outside the door.
Its name comes from the remarkable staircases built by Yony Waite that converge outside the room, recalling the impossible architectural perspectives of M. C. Escher’s drawings. The name was given by Jua Paa House photographer Jerry Riley.

Perched at the top of the house, Makuti Moon is the airiest room, filled with cooling sea breezes and natural light. It features a queen-size bed, a private kitchenette with a gas stove and fridge, and an en-suite bathroom with a shower.
A staircase leads directly to the rooftop, making this room especially suited to guests who enjoy open skies and quiet evenings. The kitchenette includes seating for intimate meals, while the room is surrounded by artworks from the Jua Paa House Collection, a thoughtfully curated selection reflecting the creative history of the house. Ideal for a couple, and equally perfect for a solo traveller seeking a peaceful retreat.
THE SECRET ROOM
Tucked away along one of Jua Paa House’s wonderfully winding staircases, the Secret Room is a quiet hideaway for a solo guest. It has access to a shared bathroom located either above or below the room, depending on the route you take.
Its secluded location also makes it a practical option for a resident cook or support staff member who may wish to remain close to the main kitchen on the ground floor.
